From then on, the days become longer and the nights become shorter. The Winter Solstice also marks the arrival of the coldest season in the year.
As early as Zhou Dynasty, people worshipped the gods on the day of the Winter Solstice, which was also the first day of the new year. The Winter Solstice became a winter festival in Han Dynasty. The celebratory activities were officially organized. On this day, both officials and common people would have a rest.
Traditional Chinese medical science teaches that the quality of a nut is tepidity and most nuts have the function of nourishing the kidneys and strengthening the brain and heart.

During Winter Solstice in North China, eating dumplings is essential to the festival. There is a saying that goes 'Have dumplings on the day of Winter Solstice and noodles on the day of Summer Solstice.'
Local legend has it that on the midwinter feast 2,500 years ago, the King of Wu (one of the states during the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period) was tired of all kinds of costly foods and wanted to eat something different. Then, the beauty Xishi came into the kitchen to make 'wontons' for the king. He ate a lot and liked the food very much.
In many places, people eat tangyuan, a kind of stuffed small dumpling ball made of glutinous rice flour to celebrate Winter Solstice.
On that day, it is customary for people there to eat mutton and vermicelli soup and soup dumplings. They give the midwinter soup a strange name: 'brain',and share it with their neighbors.
Today, though fewer families eat home-made rice cakes, people there still buy rice cakes for the Winter Solstice Festival.

A day of Winter
辣和不辣的火锅也可以拼在一起,这里叫鸳鸯锅,一半是红锅,一半是白锅(即不辣的火锅),在云贵川地区,如果朋友愿意陪你吃鸳鸯锅,这应该是他对你最大的敬意了,这样的朋友值得你珍惜,哈哈!Winter Solstice in 2020The Pit Courtyard (地坑院) is also called the Patio Courtyard (天井院), which is a relic of the ancient people's cave, which is known as the "underground courtyard of the north of China", which is said to have been around for more than 4,000 years, and the oldest living in the courtyard has been in the history of more than two hundred years and has lived more than six generations.
The Pit Courtyard is 7 meters deep in the flat land, the long 6 - 7 meters rectangular or square, and then dig 10 -14 caves (rooms) around the four walls of the Pit Courtyard. One cave is dug up into a slope, to form the ladder that is a way of going to the ground, which is the gateway called the door hole, the entrance to the central bank.
The reasons for the formation:
According to people's life situation, people's life is very poor, there is no money to build a house, there are few more, many of the lands is long deserted, the land is hard to dig a hole in the wasteland, although it is arduous and time-consuming, it has little need for any special engineering materials, and it doesn't need to cost any money.
Second, the local geology is mainly the yellow soil, which is generally 50 meters and 150 meters, the climate belongs to semi-arid, the characteristics are cool and dry, the rainfall is the smallest, and it is conducive to the drying and strength of the local soil. The temperature difference of the year is more, more can reflect the advantage of the cave that winter warm summer cool.Winter-related words in Mandarin Part 1
