The Pit Courtyard (地坑院) is also called the Patio Courtyard (天井院), which is a relic of the ancient people's cave, which is known as the "underground courtyard of the north of China", which is said to have been around for more than 4,000 years, and the oldest living in the courtyard has been in the history of more than two hundred years and has lived more than six generations.

The Pit Courtyard is 7 meters deep in the flat land, the long 6 - 7 meters rectangular or square, and then dig 10 -14 caves (rooms) around the four walls of the Pit Courtyard. One cave is dug up into a slope, to form the ladder that is a way of going to the ground, which is the gateway called the door hole, the entrance to the central bank.

The reasons for the formation:

According to people's life situation, people's life is very poor, there is no money to build a house, there are few more, many of the lands is long deserted, the land is hard to dig a hole in the wasteland, although it is arduous and time-consuming, it has little need for any special engineering materials, and it doesn't need to cost any money.

Second, the local geology is mainly the yellow soil, which is generally 50 meters and 150 meters, the climate belongs to semi-arid, the characteristics are cool and dry, the rainfall is the smallest, and it is conducive to the drying and strength of the local soil. The temperature difference of the year is more, more can reflect the advantage of the cave that winter warm summer cool.
