When to use 看过了 vs 看了过?

Chinese Grammar

I am not sure if one of these is grammatically incorrect, or if it depends on the sentence context or something else. I see natives constantly using both, but I haven't been able to find a grammar explanation.
Is there a rule, is the order interchangeable, or is one of them (technically) incorrect?
Thank you in advance!

In Chinese, "看过了" (kànguò le) and "看了过" (kànle guò) have different meanings:

1. "看过了" (kànguò le): This phrase indicates that you have already seen something or have watched something before, and it emphasizes the completion of the action. It's often used in sentences like:
- 我看过了这部电影。(Wǒ kànguò le zhè bù diànyǐng.) - I have seen this movie before.

2. "看了过" (kànle guò): This phrase doesn't have a common usage in standard Mandarin Chinese. It doesn't convey a clear meaning and might sound awkward to native speakers.

So, in most cases, you would want to use "看过了" to express that you have already seen something.

没有“看了过”这是错误的。
有“看过”。
从时间上区分:
看过的意思是以前看过。比如:你看过《佐罗》这部电影没,我说“看过”可能是很久以前也可能是最近看过。
看过了是最近发生的,看完了,比如:你问我看过最新的电影了吗?我说看过了。
从语法顺序上:放在句子中间不能用“看过了”,比如:你看过了《佐罗》没?这句话是错误的。

“看了过”is wrong, but "看过了" is right. It means, have finished and do not need to repeat. for exemple: a:我们看这个电影,好不好?b:这个电影我看过了,我们看别的电影吧。

In Mandarin Chinese, "看过了" (kàn guò le) means "have seen (something) already," indicating completion of an action. On the other hand, "看了过" doesn't have a commonly understood meaning and might not make sense in most contexts.

So, you would use "看过了" when you want to convey that you have already seen something. Natives typically use both structures interchangeably based on the emphasis they want to convey or the flow of the sentence.

"看了过" is not a commonly used structure in Mandarin Chinese, and it doesn't convey a clear meaning. The correct and commonly used structure is "看过了" (kàn guò le), which means "have seen (something) already." This structure follows the pattern of "Verb + Object + 了," indicating completion of the action.

Basically, natives use "看过了" to express that they have already seen something, such as a movie or a place. This structure is used in everyday conversation and writing without much variation.
Hope this helps!

Thank you! I figured that 看了过 might be netspeak rather than a grammatically correct structure. It is good to have this confirmed.
