Mnemonics to learn Chinese characters
I started learning Chinese one year ago and I a few months later I had to stop because I couldn't remember the characters. I would memorize something today and completely forget it a week later.
Fortunately I had the opportunity to resume my learning earlier this year and the use of mnemonics helped me a lot. I never forget characters anymore.
That's why I would like to suggest the creation of some kind of new "Mnemonics Tool" on CCHATY. Where users would be able to post their own mnemonics for each characters (especially HSK characters) and to vote for the most helpful one.
This would be very helpful to beginners who struggle with remembering characters.
Hopefully my dream tool will come true 😉 Peace !!!How do I learn how to write Chinese characters and remember them?World will remember Yuan Longping for his contribution to food safety - YoutubeLook the images and try to find their connections to Chinese characters.
For example:
The character「生」(Shēng)means " giving birth". You can image that chickens break out of eggs. Next time when you look at the picture of egg, you can connect the character 「生」and remember its meaning.
From upper left corner to the right:
-「生」(Shēng): giving birth, link to the picture of eggs
-「舌」(Shé):tongue
-「車/车」(Chē):cars
From lower left corner to the right:
-「石」(Shí):stones
-「老」(Lǎo):getting old, link to the elder
-「米」(Mǐ):rice, link to the bowl of rice
-「狗」(Gǒu):dogsThe advice for Chinese learners by a Chinese instructor:
In addition to spend time on memorizing new words, I hope Chinese learners can find tricks to remember them and try to find the logic in grammar (associate and compare the rules with your mother language)
However,
something in grammar could not be ratinalized, for example,
The noun in German has a gender, but "sun" in German is feminine, and "moon" is masculine instesd. Even the German people cannot tell the resons.
So I hope all learners can make more practice and then famililize yourself with this language. Don't push yourself to find the right answer in language learning, because we only can find the appropriate or better answer in learning language.
It's uneasy to be proficient in a language.
I hope students can find your own ways and tricks with the help of instructors in language learning.
Hello, everyone!
I believe that you all spend time in reading my message and try to memorize the 「形声字」.
Remember to find the semantic and phonetic part of the word.
You could find the tips to memorize the 「形声字」.
------------------------
The semantic part of the word in the first picture and its meaning
「马」: horse
「女」:women
「石」:stone
「虫」:worm
「口」:mouth
----------------------
This is my way to memorize the words 「形声字」( part 1):
妈(mā):
mother is the horse of family, hard work every day
码 (mă):
the stone is seen as measure tool.
马 (mă): horse
蚂 (mă):
ants work so hard and like the horse
吗 (ma):
open your mouth to ask your mother
骂 (mà):
open two months to your mother and seem to blame on herSyllabary of Chinese pinyin
Reaching fluency takes time, but with these tips and a great teacher, you'll see your learning skyrocket
1.Stick to a routine
to build a strong learning habit and keep your memory fresh
2.Break it down
and take breaks! Short, frequent study sessions are better than weekly marathons
3.Review,recap,remember
so you never forget the basics and keep progressing smoothly
Ready to put these tips to good use?My Grammar notebooks
My grammar notebooks are all hardcover. I use them to collect grammar explanations and other important notes. I write them as cleanly as possible and even use my many colorful highlighters to make them look a little nicer. If I need to know about a grammar point that I have already learned, I open my grammar notebook for the right language and find it. This way, I don’t have to remember which textbook or source I saw a certain grammar point or explanation in—if it’s important, I write it down in my grammar notebook! So, my grammar notebooks are mashups of multiple texts and sources. These are for reference only; I don’t do any practice or extra writing in them. Nothing but the facts! To find the connections to the characters is the best way to remember the meaning of Chinese characters.
For example:
-「山」(Shān):mountains
-「水」(Shuǐ):water,link to the river
-「火」(Huǒ):fire
-「魚/鱼」(Yú):fish
-「日」(Rì): sun
-「月」(Yuè):moon
How to memorize the meaning of characters:
Step 1: Speak the words loudly;
Sr
Step 2: Draw the connected image (「日」, to draw a sun on the paper)
Step 3: Knowing their connection and then memorize the meaning of the characters.
I would give you more practice in the following days and help you to remember the words.I uploaded "Remembering Traditional Hanzi 2", enjoy it.
