灯不拨不亮

Actually means:

It is part of the Chinese proverb: 灯不拨不亮，理不辨不明 (An oil lamp becomes brighter after trimming; a truth becomes clearer after being discussed). 灯 refers to an oil lamp.

The burnt part of the wick will stick together (which is called snuff) and the lamp turns dim. If the snuff is removed by trimming the wick,the brightness of the lamp is recovered.

The phras figuratively means that right and wrong cannot distinguished without argument or debate, or that something will not be understood until the reason is larified.

来自“灯不拨不亮，理不辩不明”。灯，指从前使用的用油做燃料的灯。这种灯的灯芯被火烧焦的部分会黏结在一起（叫做灯花），使灯的亮度下降。

拨动灯芯去除灯花，可以恢复灯的亮度。灯不拨不亮，比喻不经过辩论，不能分清是非，或把事情的道理说清楚了，人家就明白了。
