拿不出手

拿不出手

Literally means:

can't take it out

Actually means:

be unpresentable

It means that something is too small in quantity or too cheap to be presentable. It also means that one feels embarrassed to show his possession because it is inferior to that of other people or that one feels incompetent. Sometimes used in a modest way as apposed to 拿得出.

指东西少或不贵重，送出去不够体面；又指自己的东西很普通，或者不如人家好，不好意思拿出来；也指自己的本事不行，不顶用。有时含有谦虚的意思。和“拿得出”相对。
