Although Cantonese has more tones, learning Cantonese after you have already learned Mandarin is easier, because the grammar and vocabulary are almost the same. But it is certainly harder for an English speaker to learn.

To some extent yes! And the hardest part is the the pronounciation, but as long as you practice more you can make it!

Cantonese's 9 tones generally makes it harder to learn. Also, it's less thoroughly documented. I've been told it's more expressive, though.

Live in Shenshen many years, they are speaking Cantonese every day, which my boss and my mather-in law's family. However, I only can speak some smiple sentences, but I can understand most of what are they talking about.
I also live in Chengdu one year, my colleagues speaking Sichuanese with each other in the office every day, except me. Then, I can speak some sentences and understand what are they talking about.

There are seven main dialect-systems in China and Cantonese represents one of them. Actually Sichuanese and Madariam are both belong to the Northern dialect system but they are distributed in different regions, representing the pronunciation characteristics of different regions.
Why does Cantonese so hard ? Honestly, in terms of pronunciation, Cantonese, which has nine tones, is more difficult to master than Mandarin, which has only four tones, and there are a lot of closed lip sounds in Cantonese. In terms of vocabulary, Cantonese also retains many ancient Chinese words.
In a word, Cantonese may be hard but can be learned.

Mandarin has 4 tones while Cantonese has 9 tones. More tones makes Cantonese more hard in pronunciation.

很多年前,有一次我去唐人街,想买烤鸭,发现会说粤语的人,可以跟店主挑选更大的那只😂。后来确实恨下苦功夫,用心的钻研了一阵粤语的发音,一到五的数字和左边右边这些词。
