What Are Good HSK Levels and Scores for Chinese Universities?
First, we’ll explain what HSK level and score are considered good or adequate to attend a degree program in China.
Simply put, any HSK level/score that gets you into the school you wish to attend is good. That is to say, a good HSK level/score can be considered anything equal to or higher than the minimum required HSK level/score for your program. If you’re applying to more than one school, however, a good level/score will be one that can get you into all of your programs, that is, the highest minimum HSK level/score among your programs. (We’ll get to the details in a minute)
As you can probably guess, minimum HSK requirements for Chinese universities can vary widely. Some schools require rather high HSK Level 6 (210/300), whereas others only require HSK Level 5 or HSK Level 4. Generally speaking, the more competitive a school is, the higher minimum HSK level/score it’ll require. (However, not all highly ranked universities in China maintain high HSK requirements for admission.)
