What's the test scope for the new HSK 3.0 Level 7-9?

Reveal the first trial exam of HSK 3.0 Level 7-9:

Listening test (Changed): a 300 words article, a 500 words conversation, and a 500 words discussion; choose the right, wrong, and not mentioned; all reading materials will be played once.

Reading test (Changed): added the Question-Response questions, you need to write down your understanding.

Writing test (Changed): 45 mins to write 2 compositions, the first one is condensing an article into a 200 words essay; the second is to write your opinion from the material provided, 600 words.

Oral test (New): listen to the questions and answers, and record your answer on the computer.

7, 8, 9 share ONE single exam paper. Your final score decides which certificate you receive (7 < 8 < 9). Same vocabulary, grammar, topic pool for all three grades; difference lies in how accurately, flexibly and appropriately you use language.

1. Basic language knowledge range
Cumulative vocabulary: ~11,092 words
(HSK 1–6 total: 5456 words; around 5600 new advanced words for Level7–9)
Chinese characters: ~3080 characters for recognition; ~1350 characters required for handwriting
Grammar: All grammar points from HSK1–6 + advanced complex structures: formal written syntax, literary expressions, complex logical clauses, rhetorical usage, idioms, classical Chinese loan phrases, fixed four-character idioms (成语)
2. Topics covered in exam materials
The test moves far beyond daily conversation. Texts and audio focus on:
Social & cultural topics
Chinese history, traditional culture, customs, philosophy, arts, literature, modern social issues, media, education, population, urban/rural development, ethics and values.
Academic & professional topics

Foreign language → Chinese (written + short oral translation)

Tasks: paraphrase given texts, deliver structured presentations, discuss complex topics and express opinions.

4. Ability standard for each level

Deal with almost all high-level and specialised topics; speech and writing are stable, logical and natural. Few errors in formal contexts.
✅ HSK Level 9
Near-native comprehensive control. Flexibly adapt style for all scenarios: academic writing, formal speeches, cultural discussion, professional exchange; grasp subtle meaning, rhetoric and literary language.
5. Critical comparison reminder (you are HSK4 now)
