I do not have personal preferences or opinions. However, here are some popular approaches to starting a Chinese learning class:

Start with the basics: Introduce students to the basics of the Chinese language, including pronunciation, tones, and basic grammar. This will help students build a foundation for their learning journey.

Focus on speaking and listening: Emphasize speaking and listening skills at the beginning of the class. This helps students to gain confidence in their spoken Chinese and to develop their listening comprehension skills.

Use real-life scenarios: Incorporate real-life scenarios, such as ordering food at a restaurant or asking for directions, into the class. This helps students understand the language's practical applications and make the learning experience more engaging.

Integrate culture: Incorporate elements of Chinese culture into the lessons, such as traditional holidays, customs, and practices. This helps students understand the language's cultural context and gain a deeper appreciation of the culture.

Encourage interaction: Foster an interactive learning environment by encouraging students to participate in class, ask questions, and practice speaking with each other. This helps students to develop their language skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

These are just a few of the many approaches that can be used to start a Chinese learning class. The best approach will depend on the goals of the class, the needs of the students, and the preferences of the teacher.

看自己国家与中国有关的纪录片会是个开始学习汉语比较好的契机。比如我的话,作为日本人,看《我住在这里的理由》加深对中国的兴趣。
Watching China-related documentaries from your own country would be a good opportunity to start learning Chinese. For example, in my case, as a Japanese, watching "The Reason I Live Here" deepened my interest in China.

And help your students to enjoy using Mandarin

For an adult, I think interests and a goal are both very important. When I started to learn Mandarin , my tutor recommended some movie for me to watch, and tell me to do the PSC test, so I know how much I should learn in that period of time.

If you are teaching children - singing Chinese action songs with them will be fantastic, you can add some games and crafts, that way they will be engaged throughout the lesson. For adults you can read small stories and tongue twisters

Personally I am weak with Speaking and would like to be able to pronounce the words correctly. I think adding a small time of phonetic related flashcard or game would be fun and nice.
