What TV shows/Movies/Music would you recommend for learning Mandarin?

Hi, I am currently living in China but I've had a hard time studying and remembering Mandarin. When learning other languages, watching media in my studied language really helped me to remember vocabulary and identify it in everyday conversations easier. Any recommendations?

It is a matter of taste. You may not enjoy what is recommended.

However, if you google, “the best Chinese TV shows, movies, novels and music for new learners of Mandarin” or break it up like, “the best Chinese ___ (“TV shows” or “movies” or “novels” or “music”) for new learners of Mandarin” you will find many links that you can check out to decide which you would like to follow through to watch. As a new learner it will be best if there are English subtitles with pinyin included.

The best way to discover Chinese books is to add “.pdf” at the end of what you are looking for, eg, “Learn Chinese .pdf”

You can watch 家有儿女, jia you er nv. It's a sitcom which was produced many years ago. But the main characters are 3 children and father and mother. And their accents are all Beijing accent and very standard. All the dialogue are about daily life  which can know more about Chinese culture and their daily life. It is very famous in China. If you like vlogs, i recommend you a website, www. bilibili.com.  it equals youtube in china. but signing up is a little bit difficult.

Great question. I am also looking for good movies, TV shows and music. Do keep me posted if you find anything good and I will do the same. So far I have came across a lot of garbage and a couple of absolute gems:

刺客伍六七 - an absolutely stunning Chinese anime. It took me a while to get into the humour, but I am totally sucked in now. It may be my favourite cartoon in the world ever. It's on Netflix in France.
