The classic one would be kuaile-hanyu and it is good, but I am wondering if there more effective ones as alternatives?

I've tried several and I'd say it depends on the child him/herself. I've tried Easy Steps to Chinese, Kuailehanyu, Chinese Made Easy, etc. I personally prefer YCT for children, especially if they are not exposed to the language much in daily life. I'd also suggest for the child to watch videos in Chinese for them to be more familiar with the language.
