What are your tips for beginners?

If you are learning Chinese from scratch, PRONUNCIATION is the best place to start, and pinyin is the beginning of pronunciation. When you have pinyin as the foundation, you can try to read words, when you have accumulated a lot of words, you can try to make sentences, when you can speak sentences! You'll get the hang of It.

1 Greeting
2 Introduce each other(eg:Name, nationality,age, interests)
3 Clarify the learning goals and learning methods(eg:Chinese Level, goals, the most difficult part for learning~eg: pronounciation, vocabluaries, characters, grammar or expression etc)
4 Choose the best studying material for the student base their age and goals!

You can download some APP on your phone like Pleco，Learn Chinese by Talking Learn or Duolingo, so you can learn Chinese conveniently.

Set proper expectations and don't get discoraged.

if you live in Chinese-speaking environment, you can learn some daily dialogue and try to use it in your daily life. if not, you can find some videos online and use some app to communicate with Chinese speaker.

You have to be patient and keep yourself motivated.

1. Find out what are your goals in Chinese
2. Choose the proper textbook or materials and follow the contents
3. Practice making sentences with new words and read out loud.
4. Make friends with someone who can speak Chinese.

As a beginner, we always say the interest is the best teacher. On the other hand, I think the motivation and your ture need is the impetus which can push you study well on the way. From the basic pinyin and pronunciation will help you build up your confidence and also help you to enlarge your vocabulary learning by yourself after class.

I started alone without ask this...but after 2 years i advise everybody to start with dominating the radicals. And dont be afraid you must already know a few of them.
