Never give up!

- Learning to write combined with learning Chinese and Vietnamese will be very helpful for you.

- Basic 8-stroke structure:

  • Dot (点): a dot written from top to bottom. There are short dots and long dots depending on the character.
  • Horizontal stroke (横): is a horizontal stroke written from left to right.
  • Straight stroke (竖): is a vertical stroke written from top to bottom. Hook(钩): is a hook stroke that goes up at the end of other strokes.
  • Scratch(提): is a stroke that goes up from left to right.
  • Curved(弯): is a curved stroke that goes down from top to bottom.
  • Comma(撇): is a stroke that goes down from right to left.
  • Stroke (捺): straight stroke written from left to right, from top to bottom.

- Top to bottom rule: Most characters are written from top to bottom, for example the character “二 nhi” is the number 2 consisting of 2 horizontal strokes, it will be written from top to bottom.

- Left before right rule: The radicals on the left are written first, then the radicals on the right. For example, the character “明” consists of the radical sun and the radical moon. The sun part on the left should be written first, then the moon part, still following the rule of top strokes first, bottom strokes last, left strokes first, right strokes last.

- Rule of outside first, inside last: Chinese characters are also greatly influenced by the culture of this country. The rule of writing outside first, inside last is like building a palace, you must build the protective wall first and then the inside. Take the example of the character “用”

- First in, then close rule: For box-shaped letters, when you finish writing the outside stroke, leave only the stroke below. Then write the components inside and close the box. The stroke below is like a lid, after putting everything in, close it. Take the word “酒” for example.

- Middle first, two sides later rule: For characters with three symmetrical parts, priority is given to writing the middle part, then the left and then the right. The characteristic character is the character 水

- Some special rules when writing characters:

  • For characters with the radical 辶 and the radical 廴, when writing, prioritize writing the radical above it first, and write those two radicals at the end.
  • For letters with a dot on the top right, the dot will be written last after completing all the sets.

- The 214 Chinese radicals have the most recognizable function of helping to classify Chinese characters. Based on the Chinese radicals, dictionary compilation will also be more systematic. 214 radicals also have the function of expressing meaning, although not exactly, but help readers to deduce the original meaning.
