Every morning, a quiet man named Somchai walked into a small classroom at the edge of the city. He was older than the other students, and his hair was already turning gray, but his eyes were full of hope.
Somchai worked at a market during the day, selling vegetables and fruit. Many tourists came to his stall, but he could only smile and use simple words like “hello” and “thank you.” He wanted to say more. He wanted to understand their stories. That is why he came to study English every evening.
In the classroom, he sat in the front row with his notebook open. He listened carefully to the teacher and repeated every word slowly.
“Apple… orange… beautiful… future…”
Sometimes he made mistakes, and the younger students laughed a little. Somchai felt shy, but he did not give up. He remembered his dream—to speak English with confidence one day.
After many months, something changed. One evening, a tourist came to the market and asked in English, “How much are these mangoes?”
Somchai smiled, took a deep breath, and answered clearly,
“They are very sweet. One kilo is twenty thousand kip.”
The tourist smiled back and said, “Your English is very good!”
At that moment, Somchai felt proud. All the long evenings in the classroom were worth it. He knew he was still learning, but he was moving closer to his dream—one word at a time.
And the next morning, just like always, the man returned to the classroom, ready to learn a new word and build a better future.
