Hello, yes there is a difference. 了 (le)means already (for example: 吃了(chī le) ate , 做了 (zuò le) did, and so on. ) It is often used after a verb and is more used than 了(liǎo) 了(liǎo) on the other hand means done/end or understand. When it is used it is mostly paired with another word to make a phrase ( such as: 了解 (liǎo jiě) means to understand) but liǎo isn’t used as often. Hope this helps
