After moving to China, finding an international school for kids is one of your major concerns.

Moving to China with your kids can be very difficult and stressful but it also can be a unique way to expose your children to a new culture. After moving to China, finding an international school for kids is one of your major concerns. Another very important question is how you will pay for this education? Because international schools in Beijing are very expensive.

Here we will discuss what to consider when looking for an international school in Beijing.

How to Find an International School in Beijing?

Location is maybe the most significant concern, besides expense. Beijing is a huge city with about 24 million populations. So finding an international school near your home is important.

Most of the international schools are grouped in common areas. Many schools are located in the airport closer area. Several are located in the Lufthansa, Shuangjing, and CBD areas.

Here are some well-known international schools in Beijing:

  • Western Academy of Beijing
  • International School of Beijing
  • Beijing City International School
  • Canadian International School of Beijing
  • Harrow International School
  • Yew Chung International School
  • Nord Anglia Education Sanlitun Campus

International High School cost in Beijing VS Cost of College in US

The well-known International school offers a first-class educational system with significant prospectuses and qualified international teachers. But they have teaching fees that are equal to college educations in the US. Educating your children from a school like the British School of Beijing or the Western Academy of Beijing can cost you more than 200,000 RMB per year. The cost of school events, traveling, and lunch are extra.

This cost is not for high school; even kindergartens can cost 80-100,000 RMB per year.

Pay for your kids’ Education

Parents with a huge expat package and rich Chinese only can afford to educate their children to an international school in Beijing. If you and your family are directed to Beijing on an expat package, you need to consider how the employer covers school expenses in Beijing.

If you can’t afford the international schooling expenses, you should try to get scholarships, find any cheaper international school, or send your children to a public school.

However, when you look for a cheaper and less famous International school, keep in mind that the word International is used very freely in China. Carefully check the teachers' qualifications and the syllabus to ensure that the education system fit to the promise.

The Chinese public schools can be better for your kids to learn Chinese language skills. But it probably makes it difficult for you to interconnect with the school or help with homework. Moreover, Chinese schools' education style is much different from Western schools. Chinese usually give importance to conformity than creativity. Therefore many people don’t like to go to a Chinese public school option.
