过河卒子

过河卒子:

Literally means:

a soldier to cross the river;a person who has no choice but move forward.

Actually means:

卒子, a chessman representing soldier. According to the rules of Chinese chess, when a soldier chessman crosses the river boundary on the chessboard, it can not withdraw but only move forward or sideways.

It figuratively refers to a person who only moves on without withdrawing. It is usually used to indicate that one always tries to keep on his effort until attaining his goal and never gives up in the mide mean one is held up in a difficult situation where there is no way back, so he could only move on.

卒子，象棋中表示士兵的棋子。根据中国象棋的规则，卒子越过棋盘上的河界以后，就不能后退，只能往向前或向左右走。
