It also refers to a fixed mode similar to a streamlined coordination production, which is often derogatory.

按流水作业（把整个生产过程分为若干不同的工序，并按顺序像流水般的不断进行）的特点组成的生产程序的系列。比喻做某项事情时采用有计划，有步骤，各个环节协调一致的工作模式。也指类似流水作业的固定模式。用在后一种情况时往往含有贬义。
