打入十八层地狱

Literally means:

banish sb to the uttermost depth of hell

Actually means:

condemn to eternal damnation

According to Buddhism,if men do evil deeds, they will be cast into the bottom of hell,suffering there with no end.

Metaphorically, it means punishing somebody endlessly in the most severe way,torturing him in every possible way. Sometimes derogatory.

佛教认为，如果人活在世上的时候作恶，死后就会掉进十八层地狱，永远在那里受苦，没有翻身的日子。

比喻对人进行最严厉的惩罚，使他受对人进尽折磨，且永远没有出头的日子。有时具有贬义色彩。
