Actually means:

a woman's lot is wherever her husband's is

It literally means if a woman marries a rooster, she should follow that dog. It figuratively means once a woman gets married, she should follow her husband and submit herself totally to him, no matter he is virtuous or vicious. It was feudal restriction to women. If a woman in modern time speaks of it, it has a sense of helplessness or regret.

嫁给鸡就随着鸡，嫁给狗就随着狗。比喻女子出嫁后，不论丈夫好坏，都要顺从，跟他生活下去。这是旧时封建礼教对妇女的束缚。现今的女子若说这样的话，通常含有迫不得已或遗憾的意味。
