大人不记小人过

大人不记小人过

Literally means:

a great man is above being bothered by a small person's faults

Actually means:

大人 in Chinese refers to somebody of high rank or noble mind, while 小人 refers to someone of low rank or with poor education background.

The former group of people do not argue with the latter group of people. It is often used by someone to ask forgiveness of his or her own (or somebody else's) mistakes.

大人，指地位高或者修养高的人；小人，指地位低或者修养差的人。

大人不会记住小人的过错、过失。比喻地位高或者修养高的人不跟地位低或者修养差的人计较。多用来请求别人原谅自己或某人。
