千里姻缘一线牵

Literally means:

people a thousand miles apart may be linked by marriage

Actually means:

two beings destined to marry each other

姻缘 refers to predestined marriage. 一线牵 means the Old Man Under the Moon (i. e. the matchmaker) secretly binds the feet of man and a woman with a magically.

This phrase means that marriage is made in heaven; once the moment arrives come a couple, even though they may be very far away from each other. This is a traditional belief that marriage is a predestined opportunity.

姻缘，结成夫妻的缘分。一线牵，指月下老人（撮合婚姻的人）暗中用一根红绳子把有夫妻缘分的男女双方的脚拴起来。

千里姻缘一线牵，男女的姻缘是天生注定的，只要有缘分，两人虽然相距很远，也会结为夫妻的。这是旧传统的一种说法，强调男女结为夫妻是一种天生的机遇。
