Blog writing from China
When I moved from the US to China, my friends advised me to write a blog about my adventures in China. I never think about writing a blog before, even I was not very active on social media, and I never act like a blogger.
So when I finally start writing blogs, I didn’t want it to be an individual blog just for my family and friends, but I want it to be a handy resource for newcomers. It was my first blog, and I learned a lot along the way. It was a wonderful experience for me.
If you want to start writing a blog or continue your current blog from China, this post will surely help you.
You need a VPN to access Blogger Platforms
Bloggers typically use free blogging platforms like wordpress.com or blogger.com. Unluckily, both websites are not available in China. So you have to use VPN to access these platforms. The websites with the word “blog” in the URL are generally not accessible in China. If you already have a blog on these websites or you want to continue it from China, you have to use a VPN.
In the last few years, China has been gradually cracking down on foreign VPN services. There are many VPN services to choose from, while some don’t work well in China. My favorite VPN service is Express VPN, but some others also work well.
A Self-Hosted Website is a Good Option
If you can pay a hosting fee, you should consider creating your website hosted with a good hosting company. There are many hosting companies, including HostGator, Bluehost, and GoDaddy. This way you can choose your website name without having WordPress, BlogSpot, or such part of your URL.
You can also use the WordPress frame on your own hosted site and have many other preferences to customize your website with different plugins and themes.
My website is hosted with Bluehost, and I use WordPress with a Genesis theme and different plugins to secure and boost the website.
Hosting Companies in China
Some websites are often hosted on a shared server because this is less expensive. In this method, your website will have the same IP address as other websites that are hosted on the related server. But it can be unsafe, if any other website on the server is blocked in China, your website will be blocked too. It is just because of the same IP address. However, many websites are not accessible in China. So, always choose the right hosting plan for your website.
The cheapest hosting companies maybe a little more susceptible to this issue. To avoid it you should pay for a reliable server, but it can be very costly. Always choose a hosting company that has a better track record. I would not recommend any Chinese hosting company. Moreover, if you have an English interface the Chinese hosting companies will cost you more than international hosting services.
I used Bluehost and have not had any issue with access to China. So I recommend you to use Bluehost hosting services. However, if you know any better options please share in the comments.
Write and Publish your Experiences in China
With the right plan or set up, you can easily share your adventures with your friends, family, and other people. I tried my best to describe how you can start a blog or a website in China. I hope now you are ready to start writing a blog on your experiences in China.
If you have any blog about your experiences in China please share the link in the comments.
