how to speak Chinese

 Pinyin is helpful for pronunciation, tone is important, it is the basis for getting started.

Find a native speaker and communicate with him or her often.

Watch Chinese cartoons, shows, and movies.

Read Chinese stories that are not too difficult for your level. Childrens' books, perhaps. Trust me, it helps.

And of course, you can also try and find a good Chinese teacher who can make the process easier and more interesting.

Then choose a textbook to study. (At this stage, similar to learn other language, you need to remember vocabulary, recite dialogue, read Chinese paragraph to practice reading skills and so on.)
