The preliminary year is a festival when Chinese people propose donations and sacrifices to the kitchen god in the last lunar month. The kitchen god is highly venerated amongst Chinese people, and hold the charge of fortune of Chinese families. Chinese people said that every year on the 23rd day of the lunar month the kitchen god will inform YuhuangDadi to make a decision whether the people would be honored or punished. For that reason, on that day the people place candies, soybeans, fodder, and water ahead of his statue. The last three people are primed for the horse of god with which the kitchen god will go to heaven. While giving donations to god, people soften the Guandong candy and apply it to the kitchen god's mouth. It indicates that with his glued mouth the Kitchen God will not be capable to speak unwell of people before YuhuangDadi. Chinese people believe that men don't adore the moon and women do not venerate the kitchen. Therefore, at this ceremony, only Chinese men can put forward sacrifices to the kitchen god.

Chinese believed that on the new year's eve, the kitchen god will come back to earth with the other gods to commemorate the spring festival, so they set up a ceremony to welcome them.

On the 8th day of the lunar month every year, the Chinese frequently start to clean their houses to welcome the good fortune. This cleaning is a well-organized house cleaning, and the reason for this cleaning is to get relieved of bad luck and welcome good fortune.
