A brief introduction to seven major Chinese dialects and their representative dialects.

According to the phonetic differences, there are seven dialectal areas of Han nationality in China.

One is "northern dialect". It is the common basic dialect of the Han nationality, and its population accounts for 70% of the total population of the Han nationality“ "Northern dialect" can be divided into four Dialects: North China dialect, northeast dialect, northwest dialect, southwest dialect and Jianghuai dialect.

The second is Wu dialect. It is distributed in Shanghai, Jiangsu, south of the Yangtze River, east of Zhenjiang and most areas of Zhejiang, represented by Suzhou dialect.

The third is "Xiang dialect". It is distributed in most areas of Hunan Province, represented by Changsha dialect.

The fourth is "Gan Dialect". It is distributed in most areas of Jiangxi Province, represented by Nanchang dialect.

The fifth is Hakka dialect. It is mainly distributed in eastern Guangdong, Western Fujian, Southeast Jiangxi and southern Guangxi, with Meixian dialect in Guangdong Province as the representative.

The sixth is "Min dialect". It spans four provinces, including most areas of Fujian Province, parts of northeast Guangdong Province and southern Zhejiang Province, and most Han nationality residential areas in Taiwan Province.

Seven is "Yue Dialect". It is mainly distributed in the middle and south of Guangdong Province, the East and south of Guangxi, Hong Kong and Macao, with Cantonese as the representative.

After liberation, the country popularized Putonghua, which means the common language of the modern Chinese nation, with Beijing dialect as the basic dialect, Beijing pronunciation as the standard pronunciation, and modern vernacular works as the grammatical standard.
