sōngxià wèn tóngzǐ

松下问童子

（苍松下，我询问了年少的学童）

Under the pine, I asked the young boy

yán shī cǎi yào qù

言师采药去

（他说，师傅已经采药去了山中。）

He said that the master had gone to gather medicine.


zhǐ zàicǐ shān zhōng

只在此山中

（就在这座大山里，）

[He is] in this mountain

yún shēn bùzhī chǔ

云深不知处

（可是山中云雾缭绕，不知他行踪。）

But the clouds in the mountains are so thick I do not know his whereabouts.
